MAMMALS

The pond area also supports a number of rare specie of wild mammals. On walking around you will see the signs of Water Voles. These are different from the common rat. Firstly they are protected! They dig their holes under the water line on the banks and they hairy tales unlike the hairless tail of a rat!

Mr Ratty in Tales of the Riverbank was, in fact, a Vole.

At dusk you can see at least 4 species of Bat from the tiny Pipistrelle to the Lester’s Bat.

Not in the pond but in the adjacent River Braid, we also have a playful pair of Otter.
